The Tappahannock Main Street Program, the Town of Tappahannock and Essex County have planned a series of monthly Farmers’ Markets to be located in historic downtown Tappahannock. The markets will be held from 9-1 pm on the third Saturday of each month starting April and running through November (but not June as this is RivahFest). The market is located on Cross Street, on Fountain Green, and the Courthouse Green, in the center of Tappahannock, one block from the intersection of Route 17 and 360.

Tappahannock, VA, November 10, 2010 --
Back by popular demand, Saturday, November 19, will mark the final Tappahannock Farmers’ Market for the year. Building on the success of the previous six markets of 2011, this bonus market will not only offer late fall bounty of the fields, and the many delicious meats, seafood, and baked goods, but the crafts will also focus on Thanksgiving and Christmas décor and gifts for every taste. In preparation for the Holidays, vendors are offering evergreen wreaths, sprays, centerpieces, dwarf Alberta Spruce, Crabpot trees, table top trees, decorative container trees, some fully lit with clear festive lights as well as multi-colored lights, and many varieties of seasonal live plants.
Hague Winery and another local winery will be offering free samplings and wine to purchase. There is a growing number of wineries in the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula area and the Tappahannock Farmers' Market has given many of them a much-appreciated opportunity to showcase their range of varietal wines to a wider audience.
The featured artist will be Frank Rixey who says about his works “For several years now I have been trying to use my watercolor paintings to capture the amazing beauty that nature provides. At the same time, I enjoy painting the creations man builds to interface, even if briefly, with nature. The paintings I will be sharing at the Tappahannock Farmer's Market reflect this balance between man and nature on both sides of the Rappahannock River.” Frank is President of the Tappahannock Artists Guild, whose new space showcasing a number of local artists is just down the street from the market, will be open on Saturday 19th, as it is every weekend.
This market will conclude this – it’s second – season in Tappahannock and vendors (whose number doubled this year) are already signing up to participate in the markets of 2012. Our Market Committee members make a point of visiting other local markets within 50 miles of Tappahannock and inviting new and diverse vendors to fill the gaps in our offering – among the newcomers this summer are the Kettle Corn that visitors love to munch on as they shop, Edmunds Farms with Bison products, and the Artisan Bread Company with a multi-variety selection of loaves and cakes. For children of all ages, Kino Alpaca Creations will be back, not only offering alpaca wear but also the actual live animals for petting.
While the vendors will fold their tents for the season, the work of the Tappahannock Main Street project, which sponsors the Farmers’ Markets with generous support of local businesses, continues throughout the year exploring ways to make Tappahannock a more vibrant community. One of the successes of the Farmers' Market has been the ripple effect on businesses on Prince Street. During 2011 we are pleased to see three new businesses on Prince Street, Barbour Printing, All About Wine and the Tappahannock Art Gallery, along with anticipated renovations to some of our historic buildings on the street. Ann Catherine Cross School of Dance, Inc., has also opened up around the corner on Water Lane. Come join us on Saturday November 19, stock up for the Holidays and see you friends at the Tappahannock Farmers’ Market.
