The Tappahannock Main Street Program, the Town of Tappahannock and Essex County have planned a series of monthly Farmers’ Markets to be located in historic downtown Tappahannock. The markets will be held from 9-1 pm on the third Saturday of each month starting April and running through November (but not June as this is RivahFest). The market is located on two blocks of Cross Street between Queen, Prince and Duke Street and on Fountain Green, in the center of Tappahannock, one block from the intersection of Route 17 and 360.

Jen Donald kicks off her third successful year with the Tappahannock Farmers' Market and has been selected as Guest Artist of the Month - she has been working all winter on a new creative artwork project and is very excited to unveil it to the public on April 21 on Fountain Green.

Tappahannock Farmers' Market celebrates the start of its 3rd year...

Tappahannock, VA, April 10, 2012 --
This year, Tappahannock Farmers' Market will celebrate its 3rd year of managing one of the most vibrant farmers' market in the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula region. This market has become the new town square in the neighborhood and not only showcase the region’s agricultural bounty and connect the town to the rural countryside, but also create a whole new economy with local food at the center. The 2012 season launches with the re-opening of the market on Saturday, April 21st from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Since opening the first farmers market on Cross Street in 2010, Tappahannock Farmers' Market as grown into a focal point in the locally produced food market, garnering local and regional support for its promotion of natural and organic farm produce, and adding new and diverse vendors as its reputation grows across the region. Additionally, Tappahannock Farmers' Market supports booth space for educational and charitable organizations to educate and support local fund raising programs and promote their programs and take advantage of the strong flow of market visitors provides each month.

Returning produce vendors include Garner’s, Sisson's, Medina of Westmoreland, Nathan France & Catherine Emery and new 2012 producers Carol Curtis of King William and Mary Sudduth of Warsaw with natural grown organic vegetables and flowers. Returning flowers and plants vendors include Perennial Pleasures, Dorothy Miller and Jeff Willett Landscaping with wide variety of cut flowers and plants and shrubbery. For plant advice, Northern Neck Master Gardeners will be on hand. In the meat and fish department, Edmunds Farms provides bison and pork, while Faunce Seafood will carry the usual wide array of seafood on ice ready for the weekend. Lovers Retreat Goat cheese from Saluda will be joined by Marshall Farms Natural Cheses of Unionville offering cheddars and other cheeses - all matched perfectly to the Artisan Bakery over 25 varieties of bread which usually sell out early! Hot food will be on hand throughout the market from Java Jacks, Agora Greek cuisine and new to the market the To Do Cafe.
