The Tappahannock Main Street Program, the Town of Tappahannock and Essex County have planned a series of monthly Farmers’ Markets to be located in historic downtown Tappahannock. The markets will be held from 9-1 pm on the third Saturday of each month starting April and running through November (but not June as this is RivahFest). The market is located on Cross Street, on Fountain Green, and the Courthouse Green, in the center of Tappahannock, one block from the intersection of Route 17 and 360.

The Farmers’ Market will return to Tappahannock on Saturday, October 15, with a special early-bird peek at the scary event to come at the end of October. The market with the help of Wee-Cycled Kidzwear will be organizing a Halloween parade throughout the market during the morning, culminating at noon on the Courthouse steps where the costumes will be judged and prizes awarded! This is open to all children ten and under.
It’s going to be a very special day at the market! The little ghosts and goblins – and their parents – will be able to visit with the alpacas that are always entertaining. The Hague Winery and Vault Field Winery will be on hand for tastings (and purchases). The featured artist for the month will be Sheryl D. Johnson, whose art reflects her life experiences in her artistic views and wants her artwork to be enjoyed by those who truly have a passion and love for artistic expressions.
All of this will be in addition to the fall offerings of local farmers, bakers, breeders, gardeners and craftspeople. While Halloween will be the theme, there will undoubtedly be those thinking ahead to Thanksgiving and Christmas. The good news is that there will be an additional Farmers’ Market this year in Tappahannock on Satuday, November 19 at the request of visitors and vendors in preparation for produce and decorations for Thanksgiving and an early start on shopping for those hard to find special Christmas gifts.
