Tappahannock Farmers’ Market Returns  - 4th Market  - Saturday, August 19th

A Tappahannock tradition returns!  The Summer Heat may be tapering off  and the vegetables continue to roll in with the 4th Market of the 2017 Season on Saturday, August 19th from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Cross and Prince Streets in Downtown Tappahannock.  The Market season is the 3rd Saturday - April through November except June during the annual Tappahannock RivahFest!

The Market has a diverse mix of produce vendors and food ranging from fresh breads, cakes and pies to kettle corn to beef and sausages.  A large number of crafters, artists and jewelry makers are in good company with one or two wineries offering samples in the Wine Garden at each Market.  Live music is at every Market.

Win a Golf Cart!  Yes, you can.  Rappahannock River Estates will have a Golf Cart Raffle - $5 each or 3/$10.  You can win a fine late model electric Club Car (2013).

Domino’s Pizza Cards are back for the last time this year.  The Boy Scouts of Troop 316 here in Tappahannock will follow up from the Cub Scouts last month selling Domino’s Pizza cards for $10.  Each card comes with 16 "Buy One Pizza, Get a 2nd Pizza of equal or lesser value Free" stickers.  The Scouts will be in uniform selling the cards to raise funds for adventure camps, activities, supplies and other items needed for weekly meetings.  This is a wonderful opportunity to help teach the Scouts of Pack 316 and Troop 316 valuable social skills, a strong work ethic and individual and team dedication to setting and meeting goals.

Caret Cellars is the featured winery in August.  See and taste Caret Cellars products at the Market Wine Garden and their vineyard just north of Town and just off Route 17 in Caret, VA (495 Meadow Landing Lane – From Route 624 – Essex Church Road).  Ask them about their participation in the region’s Wine Trail and their work in support of the newly formed Middle Peninsula Artisan Trail.

Virginia Blood Services will have a bloodmobile available at the August 19th Market.  There is always a need for blood and these organizations need your support on a regular basis.  Please come out and take the time to donate a pint and help save a life.

The August 19th Market includes favorite vendors from past seasons as well as many new products.  Garner’s Produce, Level Green Farms, Nathan France and Javier Godines will return with their extensive monthly selections.  Lover’s Retreat Dairy is always popular for their locally produced cheeses, spreads, milk, and eggs.  Food while you shop and to take home includes Great Harvest Breads, Lady Jane’s Kettle Corn, GG’s Doghouse, Fluffy Buns Bakery, Bright Eyes Concession and Catering, S and S Carnival Foods, Whitley’s Peanuts, The Smoothie Hut and Essex Churches Together.  New Life Community Church always has great cakes, pies and cookies.

Craft, artist and jewelry vendors range from Eric Frolia’s oil candles carved from rock to custom woodwork such as birdhouses and furniture by Sharon Wrightson.  Jim Thomas always has great custom signs and artwork and Charlotte’s Web Natural Soap, a long-time Market vendor returns for August with her handmade soaps.

Several new vendors for the 2017 season are returning for August.  Nancy Berryman of the Blooming Dish has some great garden ornaments and other decorative items.  Jan Thomas from Urbanna has some very nice decorative artwork using real Virginia Blue Crab, oyster shells and driftwood.  Wes Bryant with Sweetwater Honey was very popular at the July market.  Muffin Top Bakery from Mechanicsville is new for August and has some great cookies, brownies and blondies, breads and, of course, muffins.

Other relatively new vendors include Chesapeake Bay Botanicals with their locally made and all Natural insect repellants, Essential Oils, candles, lip balms and soaps,  Perfectly Posh, with their Jewelry and VA Handmade Crafts and can also discuss their unique wine-tasting business, The Bubble Cupboard with handmade bath and body products and Zion Baptist Church with their great cookies, cakes and pies.

The Northern Neck Master Gardeners are always popular and will once again be at the Market with materials on what to do in August for your garden.  Stop by to find answers to all of your gardening questions.  They have rain barrels for sale to collect water when there are some good rains and they always have soil test kits available.  Be sure and ask about how to contact one of their three Help Desks for whenever you have gardening questions.  Stop by and say hello – The Northern Neck Master Gardeners all love to talk about gardening!!!

The Indian Rivers Humane Society will continue to be on hand to spread the word on the good work they do for cats and dogs as well as meet some of the prospective owners of pets from the shelter.  Other non-profit groups such as Essex Backpack Meals, Essex Churches Together and the Tappahannock-Essex Volunteer Fire Department are also returning to share information on their missions and raise funds to continue their community work.   The Market always encourages you to explore the local year-round businesses in the downtown area when you are finished with your Market shopping and eating.
